Realizing that for all that Javascript's design and consistency quirks make it the English of computing languages ... it's really enjoyable to just program any old thing by typing into a text file and hitting refresh on a web browser and that gives me good feelings I haven't had since the 80s and hacking away on Commodore computers at home.

@Austin_Dern I feel like that's 90% of the reason I felt so drawn to web development. Having a compilation step before I could run my program just felt clunky.

@SimonTesla Oh, I don't even mean the ease of not dealing with a compiler. More that this is programming that's open to everyone, everywhere. No special computer, development environment, license, installation, or even Internet connection needed. Just take your computer and do what you want. It's democratizing.
